Future pathways - where does the journey lead?
Montessori is an ‘education for life’ and as an aid to life, embraces opportunities, challenges and change, including the rite of passage as children transition from primary to secondary school.
A child educated in a Montessori environment has honed and nurtured the necessary skills to thrive in high school, equipped as resourceful, critical thinkers who work collaboratively and adapt easily. The move to traditional forms of schooling is a change that calls on these skills and provides a platform for children to pave their own way from high school, higher education, the workplace and throughout life.
At the end of Year 6, our graduates transition to a range of different high schools including private, public and selective.
For families who have thoughtfully chosen a Montessori education, it is common for parents to consider how their child will adapt to an environment in high school that differs from our Montessori school. A common thread with our alumni, is that our students transition effortlessly and with a sense of grace. The deep knowledge nurtured across the National Syllabus and intrinsic motivation to learn for themselves provides an enviable advantage to propel our graduates forward as confident, capable and collaborative learners.
Refined executive functioning skills, social intelligence and strong sense of self developed during their Montessori journey provide the springboard for future learning.
Our children in Year 6 are provided with many opportunities to prepare for the transition, including project work, community outreach programs, our 'going out program' and many conversations that prepare them for the expectations that lie ahead and how best to use their strengths to integrate into a new system with a new community.
